U.S. becomes top country brand under Obama: survey

Not sure how such a thing could be attributed solely to Obama. But I figure this is more than worth posting if for no other reason than to keep some of the board Obama haters from sleeping a few more weeks (or months):1orglaugh

SINGAPORE (Reuters) – Barack Obama has done it again. The president's starpower has made the United States the place most people want to visit and do business with, according to an annual survey that ranks nations like retail brands.

The Country Brand Index, compiled by brand consultancy FutureBrand, found the United States had unseated Australia, which held the top spot for the past three years. Australia came in third this year with Canada rising to second place.
New Zealand and France rounded up the top five country brands in this year's index that included 102 countries.

"The Obama effect has seen the United States earn the coveted top spot for the first time in the fifth annual index," FutureBrand, which is part of Interpublic Group of Companies, said in a statement.

Not surprising. The regard and respect people have for the US has increased dramatically with Obama's presidency. This won't do any harm to the American economy either.

USA became a top brand country but the bail outs and the other social and economical reforms made by Obama haven't resolved the unemployment problems and haven't improved the lives of some people. A top brand country with a huge debt and a government spending more than what it has, is something no to be proud of and not to trust as well.
Since almost a year, there is no real improvement with the Obama's presidency, the further we go in time, the worse it becomes.Obama is naive and has not an over the long run forward planned capacity of thinking.

Actually you're dead wrong. Things have improved...The market is up nearly 4k pts. (many Obama naysayers predicted a complete crash), home sales are up, GM was on the brink and they have now posted their best numbers in 2 or 3 years, the list is a little longer but the ONLY thing that (predictably) is lagging is employment.

So you're flat wrong but :georges:

You don't surely expect the social and economic reforms to have made much impact yet? That's not how it works. Neither can you blame him for the huge debt, he got the poisoned chalice and took the least bad way of dealing with it.Recovery is going to take some time.
Forward planned? Can you plan in any other direction?

I don't consider the stockmarket to be an indicator of economic growth, just look the dollar is at its weakest level. Home sales? Most of people who bought homes in the past bought them at credit and they were forced to sell them because they were not solvent. So what's your point to prove me that because lot of people received some credits to buy homes and have purchased homes, everything is better? No, that is complete utter bullshit :bs: :yesyes: Buying at credit especially a house is one of the dumbest things to do. Buying a house with a certified cheque or with cash is more secure and quicker than making a credit and always owing bank money.
GM has killed oldsmobile in 2007 and pontiac in 2009, the result was several people laid off which were two of its strong selling brands. It happened because the USA haven't been enough protectionnist and haven't limited the number of imports which has killed these brands.

You have lost me here. A radical improvement in the standing of the US in world opinion is a bad thing and should be a source of shame and embarrassment? Yes? This Obama guy is worse thatn even Glen Beck was told to think.

Are you of the opinon that the complete pissing away of soft power under the previous administration made things easier for US diplomats? I'm sure this news was extremely welcome in many a beleagured embassy.

Anyway nice work confusing arguments about domestic spending programmes with foreign perceptions of US standing. When you are not on this board, do you haunt cookery websites with conspiracy theories in baseball umpiring? To me it would seem to make as much sense.

Listen carefully the hotmega twin, the so called and promised improvements claimed by the Obama administration during the Obama campaign are not here.
Unemployment is at its highest peak, dollar is at its lowest level.
What is a shame and an embarassement is that you have a president credited with a nobel prize who hasn't made anything concrete during the first year of his presidency and who has ass kissed the arab nation asses, the UN and who shook Chavez's hand.
As far as what concerns the Clinton bitch, her way of taking care foreign affairs is shit and she is far to have the experience powell or condi had. I always hated the clintons to the death and I will continue to do so. The diplomacy of kissing arab nations asses and saying yes to everything what the UN says to you is a not being a patriot and it is just denying who you are. A patriotic diplomat knows what he should do and stand for but never yield to the interests of his opponents or make dangerous compromises.
I am not confusing arguments or domestic spending programs so use better and more accurate arguments to prove me wrong when I am not.
When I am not on this board most of the time, I am at work and working. And during my freetime, when some people of the same sort than you dare to tell me the same lame ass remarks, I put them at their place very quickly.

what type of fantasy world are you living in???

things like that don't happen overnight.

Hilarious!! Just complete comedy Georges.:1orglaugh

Firstly, can we have a little intellectual honesty here Georges (if you're capable of it on Obama). Had the stock market languished around 6K or gone the other way...you'd be at the fore of the cheerleading section lambasting Obama for it.

But to the point you're attempting to make....You are either ignorant of the facts or lying when you assert the position that nothing's gotten better since Obama took office.

The stock market is better, the housing market is better, GM is better, the banks (overall) are better and the image of the US is better, etc.

Say what you will about GM losing some brands....I'd think that's better than them losing their entire ass as was nearly the case when Obama took office.

Banks make money off of interest on loans.....if everyone did as you suggested and stuffed their mattresses with their money until they had enough to buy a house cash....almost all banks would be out of business.

Not too smart or forward planning on your part there Georges....:nono:

Listen carefully the hotmega twin

Thanks for the compliment. Not too shabby being compared to MJ.

But you do understand there is a difference between a mission of salvaging and a mission of improving right??

Employment is by far the last indicator to improve when an economy improves....Michael Jackson's old chimp even knows that.:hatsoff:

Georges, in my life women have come and gone. Sometimes I ended it, sometimes I didn't. Outside of feelings for family and children nothing can sear the heart like the death of love in the object of your affection. I know from painful experience.

One of the worst things you can do though, is not let go. If you are on a date with a new girl, whatever you do don't launch into a monologue about your ex and how the light used to play across her tresses and laughter dance among minutes that melted into oceans of happiness.

Georges, I'm ecstatic that I have inherited this mantle of Obama bitch in your affections, but it is hurtful that you keep going on about this Hot Mega person. Georges, I need to know, are you still in love with him? I long to hear your hare brained delusional Obama rants as your medication waxes and wanes but if you are really directing them at him and not me I feel cheapened, used and humiliated.

Georges, tell me it's over between you and Hot Mega. There's only a limited amount of grade A loony claptrap in this world and now that I have found it with you I don't want to share. Is that wrong of me Georges?

It's amazing how the world's perception of America changes when the president isn't some Texan moron bent on killing all the Moozlims.

MJ...the drill is usually this; when some people get thrashed on the facts the last line of defense (offense) is to try and attack or impugn the messenger.

I suppose since ol 'Mega and MJ tend to write in succinct paragraphs and possibly express some of the same views ....ah-ha!!! This must mean we're one and the same...as if it's possible to have the market cornered on making sense and writing so that people can follow along with what we're saying. Although the case has yet to be made for why in the world someone would say the same shit the same way using different "profiles".

As best I can tell this mumbo jumbo was floated by "Facetious"...I hope this won't make you jealous though but apparently you're not the only one the FOs conspiracy chasers theorize are actually 'Mega.

Either way it's pretty laughable IMO.:1orglaugh

i think this is not so much a pro-president Obama thing, I think it is more a pro-Not Bush Anymore! thing. Say what you will about the former president, he did not earn international favour.

A change of administration simply brings a new face to the country after the old, disliked face of president Bush disappeared. New is good and exciting. President Obama could be standing on his head farting chicklets and the international community would welcome it. It is simply not the same administration that unilaterally started a very internationally costly war in the middle east despite protest from the UN.

but that's just my $0.02. Feel free to ignore me or flame me.

Disagree somewhat in that it's simply not Bush syndrome....although that's a part of it. As I think GWB unknowingly represented the worst stereotypes and perceptions of America and Americans.

However, I think Obama has said and done things that would tend to endear more from around the world to him and by extension the US. He did go and talk to the world and not at the world.

Some clowns tried to criticize Obama for "apologizing" although he never used the word "apology" once from what I've seen....but some just never let the facts get in the way of a good lie.

Georges, if you are not getting confused in your arguments about the elevation in reputation of America amongst foreign nationals, then why do you begin your post talking about domestic levels of unemployment? If the original poll was a measurement of foreign estimations of domestic employment rates then you would have your answer nailed on. Do I have to emphasise that this is not the subject of discussion?

I don't think I am alone in working out that you have no time for Obama. However, I also don't think I am alone in being bored shitless by the fact that you write the same fucking reply irrespective of the question.

Lastly and most amusingly, your boast of putting people, "at their place" with regard to the fields of international finance and diplomacy etc would hold more water if they were not delivered in the grammar and style of some wild eyed wanking mad eleven year old with the keys to the drinks cabinet.

Ah ha! Second!

Take that, Australia!

Hot Mega you're a typical close-minded liberal idiot! What do you have to say for yourself and Obummer now? He's racked up more debt than any other president, our economy is in the shitter, and the unemployment rate is high as hell! Obummer is incompetent and has yet to balance the budget, he is a major failure. Hopefully in November we can send him back to Chicago where he belongs!
