You're not the only one. He is very childish for his age, people will say he's relateable because he (used to) stream on Twitch until he realised he was opening himself up too much to his fanatical teenage girl fanbase
That was one thing that really ground my gears. He used solicit donations from his fans (mostly teenagers) whilst streaming on twitch. That was in very poor taste IMHO and definitely rubbed me the wrong way. I don't have a problem with him streaming with fans but someone so incredibly wealthy (and that's ignoring that his father is nearly a billionaire) encouraging his young fans to donate bits to him is flat out wrong.

but he's been marinating in privilege his entire life, exemplified by the fact that he went to an elite private school, and yet is clearly still very uneducated, but gets away with it because he could afford to pursue a racing career and when you're as wealthy as he is, education is an optional extra, not a necessity.
Yes, that also annoys me quite a lot. There's nothing wrong with not knowing stuff, but not caring to learn very basic stuff when you have that opportunity available to you comes off as very ungrateful. There was a video a year or two ago with Lando where they were asking him some very easy Geography based questions it was clear that A) despite having visited so much of the world, he never bothered to learn anything about the countries that he visited (like not even being able to find Canada on a map)..... and B) he genuinely didn't care to. Again it very much rubbed me the wrong way.

If you're one of those people who has never left your home country, I'm not going to judge you for being bad at geography. But if you've travelled the world multiple times over, visited more countries in a year than the vast majority of people in rich counties do in a lifetime yet never bothered to look at a map? That's mind boggling to me.

Contrast that with Max - the difference between them in intellectual curiosity couldn't be more stark.

Yes, I think what you say here is at the core of this.

One thing that shocked me was when for Grill the Grid the drivers had to name every World Champion, and Vettel was the only one that named them all correctly. Most of them barely got past Schumacher, and you would think since they've been racing their entire lives, often at the behest of their general education, and they have every desire to be on that list that they would know who else is on it! Lando was especially dismissive of this, not even correctly knowing when Hakkinen, who drove for his team, won his titles.

Edit: oh sorry, that was an eyeroll emoji

Lando and Seb are at different ends do there careers - Seb has reached the point where he's probably achieved more than he dreamed of as a kid, and he's made those lists most of us probably looked at when got into the sport - alongside Hamilton, Schumacher, Fangio, Prost there's now going to be Vettel forevermore. I wonder how well he'd have done on the same challenge towards the start of his F1 career?

Lando has always struck me as being the sort of person who's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but unlike so many people in that position he's managed to find the thing he's good at, which he also enjoys, and worked out how to succeed in that - building a group of people around him - and how to keep that group engaged with him - making them laugh and not hiding his foibles seems to be a good part of that. TBH that makes him smarter than a lot of people who are "book smart"!

And as for Nyck de Vries, he definitely puts the time in down the gym - I wonder if him being one of the shortest drivers on the grid means he actually has the flexibility to be able to build more muscle than the likes of Este and Geroge who will be concentrating on keeping the weight off. ISTR Nico Rosberg having to give up on cycling to become World Champion as he couldn't afford to add any more muscle (adding weight) and losing time to Lewis. Now we have driver minimum weights Nyck has a lot more flexibility in where to add the weight - body or seat, similar to Lewis who has the flexibility to be seated higher or lower where as George is always stuck in the lowest position.

After that text heavy post it's only right to add some photos of Nycks arms isn't it?

Starting in 2019 a minimum driver weight was introduced of 80 KGs. From Motorsport.com:

FIA rules state a minimum weight for an Formula 1 driver of 80kg.
If the driver weighs less than 80kg (which is the vast majority of drivers) then this difference is corrected with ballast. This ballast is added to the cockpit so it cannot be placed anywhere on the car to improve balance. This figure also includes the driver’s helmet, race suit and shoes so drivers do not aim to weigh exactly 80kg.

This 80kg minimum rule was implemented in 2019 to reduce the advantage shorter and lighter drivers had. Before this rule, the driver weight was included holistically within the overall F1 car weight rules which meant lighter drivers provided teams with more room to improve the balance of the car. Before that, it was not uncommon for drivers to be told the specific weight they were allowed to be by their teams, and this was often lower than what was healthy for the drivers.

How much does an F1 car weigh in 2023 and what's included in the limit?

The points you mentioned very much disadvantaged Marcus Ericsson, Esteban Ocon etc.

Yeah and he’s very obviously aware of that if you read his post. Don’t be bitter that he defended Lando and made a very clear point that you’re oblivious to for whatever ill-formed bias you have against him.

How am I being bitter? My response had nothing to do with Lando. Calm down.
