swaffeling!

but in all serious, ima have to look that one up.

i have a surprise game tomorrow apparently. unfortunately, chili is on the menu and a couple of my players are a couple of real farters. sigh.

im going to finish up what we didnt get to last time, then close before the big social event i was talking about earlier. ive really laid off the prep work before games to work on winging it faster and better. its coming along rather well. i've spent some time watching some DMs online go their thing and have picked up some tips.

i did manage to create an NPC on the total fly last session that went way better than i could have planned. an old slightly crazy potions merchant who liked to sniff the potions in order to identify them. my players were laughing and saying how much they liked this guy. i couldn't ask for more.

ill be sure to have him appear once more as a surprise.

At least it's getting to that time of year when it's warm enough outside to open up the windows. :1orglaugh

Although, I think where you live that may have been the case for a while.

you get about 2 weeks of window time here before opening the windows makes it hotter. stupid desert.

pfft, what a night. we talked with the game set up for like 2 hours. we got nothing done!

at least i managed to leave them at a cliffhanger. one of my players exclaimed, "why do you always do that?!?!" in regards to keeping her on edge for the next game.

the answer is, because it drives you crazy. but ill never tell her that.

i managed to pull off one of the best twists in our game the other night when all the PCs found out that the fortune teller that has been helping them since day one is actually the last of the 3 hags they must destroy to weaken strahd.

they shouted, "ITS FUCKING MADAM EVA!!"

complete surprise, it was so great.

also, and more exciting than that, i am in secret cahoots with one of my players. i asked her if she would be interested in becoming a vampire (a total secret to the PCs for now) and she almost blew her lid in excitement saying yes.

now.. what to do with that?

for my next game i need to figure out how to "infect" her without it being obvious (im thinking have run run off into the forest in pursuit of something only she sees and thats where she gets bitten but doesn't tell the rest of the PCs) and i also have to come up with that social evvent that will bring the players and the main villain together for the very first time.

this can be tough..

Hmmm...I'm always suspicious of the fortune tellers in RPGs. ;) :1orglaugh

Personally I never do anything that secretly gets a player to be the DMs secret mole in the group in a game like D&D (with the exception of somebody being dominated by magic, but that's different and usually not permanent). At best a DM must know their group very extremely well to make sure everybody would be fine with it when it comes out. Otherwise I can see some feeling getting hurt considering D&D is more of a cooperative game were it's expected in a metagame sense that everybody works together, unlike a game like Paranoia where things like that might be more expected.

ah, yeah.. this group is the perfect medley of friends. when it does get revealed (it hasnt been flourished yet) its gonna be good, but i understand where your concern would be. ive heard tales of groups having proper fights. this, in the wrong group, can be very dangerous territory, im sure.

im at DM, my girl is a player and we are playing with another couple (boyfriend/girlfriend). we are all very good friends so itll be fine. she will be dominated by strahd in the end, i think. it will be quite the twist if i can manage to play it off. maybe have her throw her will against strahd's and fail for the deathblow and possibly stand by his side. not sure yet.. gotta figure it out.

im gonna make sure (triple, quadruple check she wants in, because, once a vampire, usually always a vampire. USUALLY. of course, i can always write in a cure. maybe once strahd "dies."

man.. now im itching for a game!

Just came across these dice. Not sure these been out before...?

That is cool. I wish I had those when I was first DM'ing.

As D&D players did you guys like the latest episode of The Big Bang Theory "The Love Spell Potential" S06E23 where its was mostly about them playing D&D ??

Only curious after reading this gamers perspective on the episode. He made some good points like the playing with girls bit and few points about alcohol and playing, like you guys had just discussed.

i don't watch that show (i dont have TV) but a couple of my players do. in fact, that might have been on the other night at their place but im not one for sitcoms. i was trying to figure out how to play magic. i think im finally getting it. kind of a tricky game.

my group generally contains at least 2 girls regularly, sometimes 3 and up to 4. im pretty versed with playing with chicks.

of course, one of them did manage to spill lipstick all over my chessex battlemat and ruin it... so there are some dangers to gaming with girls..

Among the RPG players that I hear from half of them like the The Big Bang Theory and find it funny, and half of them loath it. The ones that dislike it either think it's unfunny and stupid or some of them get insulted by the way they stereotype geeks by using ridiculous amounts of hyperbole or just concocting things from it that are almost never true for the vast majority of them.

A lot of people also hate the laugh track in the show.

I think how they feel about it has a lot to do with how thick their skin is or how much they have had to deal being put down for things like that in real life.

For me personally I think the show is alright and has it's moments. I take the show for what it is though, and I would like to think it makes more of a statement and satirizes the dumbest perceptions the world has of nerds and geeks and not the nerds and geeks in the world themselves, although it's often hard to tell where the line is on that.

laugh tracks.. once i hear that, im out. i downloaded an audience soundboard once to fuck around with, it was hilarious. i was so bummed when i heard laugh tracks on red dwarf. i had been dying to give that show a go then realized it was one of those when-the-audience-laughs-you-laugh shows. damn.

the fact that its british will most likely earn it another go from me, but yeah, not my thing. sitcoms are just not my style. the rare exceptions were roseanne and the cosby show. i loved that shit growing up and still do.

I was never a big fan or Roseanne either the show or the person, but I do have to give that show credit. It was one of the first shows I can ever remember watching that in a lot of ways actually portrayed family life in a more realistic sense for a large portion of people out there that shows before it just didn't do. The family didn't get along a lot of the time, and the family had a lot of issues that other shows didn't deal with at the time. They weren't doctors or lawyers. They had to struggle to keep from falling into poverty. Life threw a bunch of crap at them at pretty much every turn. They lived in a community that wasn't that great. They basically had to find enjoyment in a lot of the little things in life, among a lot of other things people could mention about the show. A lot of the time I appreciated and watched the show for that.

yeah, very true. it was much more realistic. i think the first seasons really portrayed her family side and soft comedy the best. she really had a unique style. i never knew much about her personal life at all, still don't. i bet shes one of those that has some really weird quirks. you can just tell. ie, she's prolly a bitch IRL.

I both find in comical and also amusing how some of those old illustrations and other artwork turned out in the old books. :1orglaugh That's okay though, because after all, it's a game where you should be using your imagination. It also shows how small it started off, as good artwork is often the most expensive part in the production of producing RPG books. Plus it has that classic old school feel to it.

Still I'm glad the artwork is much better now.
